8.1 update 1 stuck with the turning wheels screen

tried installing update 1 on lumia 720.
Got stuck at the black screen with turning wheels.
Progress bar always remaining at zero.
Kept like that on charge overnight, but didnt progress when I checked in the morning.
Battery seems not to be charging during the installation screen.

Installed nokia recovery tool and tried to recover
Some error occurred in between and i tried starting again
this time the progress bar was showing a bit and so I waited. The installation completed and update1 was installed with all my data intact.

To make cortana work, I installed UK language. It asks for a restart and did.
This time again the phone went to the black screen with turning wheels with zero % progress.
Again tried with nokia recovery tool, but the tool is not able to detect the phone now. It asks to perform the soft reset steps and click ok to proceed.
But even restarting the phone again takes to turning wheels page and nothing happens.

My phone has gone useless for last 30 hours. Please help.
What are the options for me now?

Hey.. The same thing happen with me.. Remove ur sim card and memory card and power on ur device.. It will work..
