The Tips/Tricks app in my phone tells me

"Warning: Make sure there's nothing between the charger and the device. Do not attach any objects, such as stickers, on the device surface near the charging area."

Does this mean I have to take my case off in order to charge wirelessly?

it's just a precaution and legal thing IMO.

You don't have to take off your case unless its metal (don't know if it matters, but I've seen a couple horror stories regarding metal and old Palm Touchstone wireless chargers.)
But keeping distance to a minimum is a good idea. also helps to keep the phone naked so it can more easily dissipate heat than with a case.
