Am new in the Windows phone world. Is there a way to know apps that are running and from where you can close them?

This feature is present on android phones...where one can close apps by swiping

    Thanks

At least theoretically, there is no point to this. You're just wasting time by micromanaging something the OS can do better than you. In practice it may be necessary when discovering an app has a bug that can only be dealt with by force-closing the app. To do that:

Press and hold the back button. Find the card and either press the "x" or swipe down.

I think you will find the long press of the back button to close apps necessary.
That is if you are planning on playing games on your phone.

I have played games that if you wanted to quit the game in mid play it was the only way to get out of the game.
Other games ive played you had to do multiple actions to get out of a game when you've finished playing.
