Two questions about using mobile phone on public wifi

Hi

Can anyone help please! Using my Nokia 920 with windows 8.1 on a public wifi.

Is there a setting on the phone to change between a private and public network like on a windows PC?

I would be using the Nokia 920 abroad on a public wifi as well as in the UK. Is it advisable to install a firewall / security package?

Please also let me know, if there are any other settings I should change on my phone when using a public wifi.

There are no settings... No Firewall or AV to install.

At this point there is no demonstrated reason to have these things on Windows Phone. Security breaches tend to target the most popular platforms and pieces of software. Few build attacks against minority players in the field because to get a return on effort they need to saturate their efforts across as many users as possible. It's an advantage of not having the user numbers of Android or iOS.

Browse smart is the best advice for now.

You can still be man in the middled. I have done it on my own phone. Web is the weakest, but most apps are using HTTPS and email and SMS/MMS is encrypted.
