Half my apps can't connect to the internet?

I can use the IE app fine, as well as the search function.
The Bing News app seems to update pretty frequently, as well as the Advanced English Dictionary app.

However, there are a lot of other apps that can never seem to find an internet connection. Urban Dictionary app, Epic Pics and Videos app (yes it's silly but pfff), and it seems like the Boston Big Picture app (just downloaded it today) can't connect to the internet to update their feeds.

The Dictionary.com app is very feeble as well, keeping the same Word of the Day for weeks at a time.

I've got a WiFi set up at home, and am connected to it all the time. But even when I'm out and at work and other places, I have it set to use data for any internet usage (I have unlimited), so I'm not sure why I have these connection issues no matter where I go :s

Any thoughts?

Could it possibly be that these apps are just old and no longer working? Maybe the API for the services they're using changed and the apps never got updated accordingly.
