Prepaid vs regular phone

Stupid question-does anybody know what the difference is between a prepaid phone and a regular (no contract) phone? For example, an AT&T prepaid Lumia 635 Go Phone is $49.99 from AT&T or WalMart, but the Lumia 635 off contract is $139.99. If they are the same, why couldn't I buy a Go Phone and go to AT&T and use it on a "no annual contract" plan? Another thing-why is prepaid coverage sometimes inferior to other coverage? Just wondering. Thanks in advance!

Both are no-contract phones. But one is locked and the other don't. Now with the new US laws, if you buy and pay your phone full price you can order an unlock code. So... Get your ATT 635 and ask them an unlock code at their website. Just fill the form that you're not an ATT client.
