Why wont my start screen message indicator clear?

The indicator should indicate an unread text or email. I have cleared all texts and emails, but the message indicator is still there.

Try a Soft Reset by holding the Power + Volume Down buttons until the phone vibrates and reboots (about 10 seconds). You do not lose data, but the phone re-starts with cleared out system memory. Soft Reset can clear many small glitches that might occur.
