Why aren't my apps opening after loading for a while?

I recently changed my mail settings to "download mail from any time" without realizing that mail is actually getting downloaded to my phone. This ate up all my storage and am not able to open any app in order to perform any curative operations.
I tried opening the following but everytime i try, i screen black screen with "Loading" written and i am redirected to the previous screen i was working on.
1. Settings -> email
2. Mail
3. Whatsapp
4. phone
I am doing a reset (volume down+lock key) everytime this happens as the system hangs and i can't get my phone to do anything.

Please tell me how to clear storage given this situation as i feel storage is the main problem (i have 2 MB free space left currently)

Buy one sd card of 16gb and move all of your apps to sd card that will fix your problem
