How do I create a shortcut to my desktop?

I log onto a site and want to create a qick shortcut on my desktop

Depends on browser.

In IE and possibly other browsers, you can right click somewhere in the page and "create shortcut"

This presumably works in any browser:
Select text in address bar, right click, copy (or ctrl-C)
right click on desktop, new shortcut
tap in location box, right click, paste (or ctrl+V)
click next
Give it a name
Done!
