The latest official release, .318 is very stable, and reliable as a daily driver. Battery life has improved dramatically since the early build due to optimisation of the software. Heat can still arise, but this is when really hammering the phone.
I have both a 950 and XL. Both are capable devices that should be unleashed when Redstone Anniversary is released. Both devices cope well with continuum, which they should do, they were designed with it. Again, continuum is maturing in line with the threshold releases.
Since .318, I haven't noticed any significant heat generation on either device. If you do go with a x50 series device, you should notice quite an improvement.
