Why does my computer freeze when I add a folder?

Computer freezes when I add a folder

My system freezes when I try to add a folder while saving a file in an application. When adding a folder in File Explorer I have a similar problem, but less frequently. Any ideas?

First of all which o/s are you using?

Off hand I can think off two possible scenarios, you have a heavily fragmented mechanical hdd or you have a failing ssd / mechanical hdd.

Also have you run an anti virus scan using malwarebytes and Hijackthis + housecall?

I have seen this occur in both situations, the latter being at a previous place of employment where they cheaped out on a no-brand ssd.

Try something auslogics disk defrag or perfect disk see if that helps and personally I use Ultimate Defrag by Disktrix.

If the disk defrag and housecall, a/v scans and hijackthis return nothing then you most likely you have a failing drive.

I would back everything up as soon as possible.
