I tried this on an old 920 just out of curiosity, and it worked fine. It should work on a 520 too, provided it has enough RAM.

In all honesty the best way to update your 520 is to head to a shop and replace it with a much newer phone.

If you want to stay with Windows you may have to shop around, and unless you get a phone capable of Continuum so a reasonably high spec phone like the 950/950XL or the Alcatel or HP offerings you would be in the same boat, if not then wait for the mythical Surface Phone like the rest of us.

There are plenty of lower priced Android offerings, I have a work supplied Samsung A5 (2017) that runs all my MS software, I hate the OS but it functions.

But realistically the 520 is not the way forward.
