I actually got used to not having it, in all honesty.
You should look at Windows 8.1 Update 1, it has integrated Metro to desktop (as you can see taskbar in Metro by moving your mouse cursor to bottom of screen, title bar in Metro apps similar to desktop apps, power button next to user account name in Start screen and Metro apps can be pinned to taskbar to make it familiar with Windows 95 to 7 users)
There are also apps you can install for Windows 8 that will bring the classic Start menu back.
Such as Classic Shell.
