Can you fix a permanent damage?

When I press the power button 3 quarters of my screen is a white square shape with colourfull lines running down it and there is what I can only decribe as a big black ink blodge, I can't do anything because outside the white shape there are more lines running across my screen. Is there anything I can do before buying a new laptop, I think my laptop can't be fixed but I don't know.

If the screen was damaged the only thing you can do is replace the screen or buy a new laptop.

Sounds like your screen's LCD is damaged. Best bet is probably to buy a new one, as screen replacement is difficult and expensive.

Good point. I remember that once I decided to replace the screen on my laptop at the time and the cost to do that was nearly as much as the laptop itself!

My brother had a similar experience, it was 400 dollars to fix his screen, on a laptop that he had paid around 800 for.
