I normally pickup a pay as you go SIM card from Orange when I am in France. On my latest trip I picked up a pay as you go SIM card from Bouygues Telecom. It's interesting how they have it set up, you basically pay for days of usage:

For 5 euro you get unlimited calls and SMS (in France), plus 250MB of data that is good for 2 days.

For 10 euro you get unlimited calls and SMS (in France), plus 250MB of data that is good for 7 days.

For 15 euro you get unlimited calls and SMS (in France), plus 250MB of data that is good for 10 days.

For 20 euro you get unlimited calls and SMS (in France), plus 250MB of data that is good for 15 days.

I opted for the 20 euro plan. 250MB of data is good for most people for 2 weeks. My wife used 250MB of data in 6 days (She reads and streams CNN videos while traveling on the train. That's a data eater), So I had to added 10 euros to her account to get her another 250MB of data.
