Nokia purity headphone not working with my laptop

I have a nokia purity headphone and they work great with my phone but when i try to connect it to my laptop the quality is really really poor and it skips alot of vocals and beats.

could it be that the cable you are using only works for your phone .... I know there are 2 cables included the one with the volume up and down work perfectly with anything 3.5mm jack but the other ones with just the mic only work for only nokia phone ( from what I have read )
