GDR3 battery life improvement (or a bug?)

updated my Lumia 1020 yesterday evening. immediately after the update it was the same. I let it drain to shut down and charged it all the way. I then turned on background on all my apps, switched to LTE from edge and set my email to push from every 30 mins to get an accurate idea of any changes (the previous settings were in place to make sure I could get a full day on GDR2).after 5 hours and 6 minutes which included 1hour off Wi-Fi, 1 hour of calls, about 10-12 pictures, some texting tweeting and about 3 pictures to Facebook and 3 to 6Tag, I'm now at 82% which is much better than it's been before considering how much I had it limited previously. I'll report back once I've drained it down to 0 to let you know what my final results were.

Battery is normal to me, i think its pretty much people wanting their battery life to be better which is doing it.

I haven't seen anything out to the ordinary for me.

Previously, i was able to leave my phone off charger over night for 8 hours and have no battery drain that is with bluetooth on, 3 emails, 2 coming as is and 5 apps running in background. Probably would do the same now if i tried.

The battery life on my 920 (AT&T) got worse. It seem to have improved after GDR2 but GDR3 is so far decreasing it a lot. The 920 also get fairly warm doing nothing after GDR3. Any suggestions?

I'm pretty OCD about things and I can say for sure my battery life is much improved and my phone also runs cooler.

I loaded GDR3 this morning on my Lumia 925 and still have 80% life left, this is a dramatic improvement from the 50% I would normally have with same approximate usage. I'll track it for a few days, but I'm pretty sure it has helped with battery life significantly.

Sure, but this is no different when a buttload of people say an app is smoother and opens faster when there is an update when in reality, there isn't anything different. Everytime there is an update, tons of people say the same thing, they think battery life is better. All subjective.

Really difficult to compare battery life when you can't replicate exactly the usage you had before day to day. Key word when people think there is better battery life is they use "it seems", i say, probably not.

I understand what you're saying and I to get skeptical when I read posts like that....but pre amber, I could put the phone on airplane mode, screen on low, leave the phone untouched overnight and be down by 20% in the morning. That was consistent. Post Amber and now gdr3, I leave everything enabled, go to bed on 100% and wake up to 100% or 97%.

I definitely agree, especially the facebook or skype apps. Every update, everyone is like, OH IT'S FASTER!......not. But in this case I also thing GDR3 has made a difference. Maybe it's the ability to force close apps, but I haven't experienced any battery drain since the update, and I'm getting 25+ hours/charge. Will keep an eye out, since one day isn't enough for a decision. But looking at my battery app, usually I would see peaks of high data usage, and then see it stop after restarting, so far the drainage seems pretty smooth.

I think battery life is slightly better. Amber increased it, GDR3 increased it slightly again. :)

My battery improved significantly after GDR2 update. I'm getting an extra 4 - 5 hours per day now.

From these posts, I can tell that one of the more unnoticed but significant change in GDR3 is performance optimizations... Yay!

I noticed that when im in wifi mode my batt is draining fast, is it because as a registered in "developer preview" and the option for "notifying me if there is an update is gone" is that my phone is continiously searching fot an update thats why im draining fast that before?

And it seems I may have spoken too soon. My battery depletion is back to how it was before although I still have LTE, sync and notifications on so it may still actually be much better although I've managed to go down 30% in 3.5 hours. The camera is nasty tough on the phone's battery.

My L925 dropped 0% over night and has dropped from 100% to 74% in the 22 hours its been off charge. With no change in usage habits. Might give it a go with Mobile Data on permanently when I next re-charge, I've never been able to use my L925 with GDR2 like I used my Samsung Galaxy SIII Mini Android phone without serious battery drain, will be interesting to see how it holds up against heavy usage with the GDR3 Preview. where as with GDR2 I'd go from 100% to 38% over night.

tomorrow afternoon will be a big test as I'll be at the Mother-In-Laws with the wife & little one where I tend to do quite a lot of Data heavy stuff without a charger, and if my Google Nexus 7 hasn't got a decent charge (In the past I've run it pretty close to fully drained).

Mine have really increased since update. Atleast it feels like. Especially feels more stable - not having random power drains siddenly etc

Those who experience or experienced fast battery drain, have you tried to change "Download new content" option in Microsoft account settings to hourly? It has helped me greatly to increase battery life in the past.
