PhotoSynth doesn't use PureView?

I was very excited that Photosynth finally made it's way to my Lumia 920 but I tried it last night in the snow and was extremely disappointed. My synth was extremely dark and looked horrible. I took a standard Night shot and the photo looked great as usual, great enough to be retweeted by NokiaUS and BenThePCGuy. I tried using just the app and I tried launching it as a lens and neither made a difference. Am I doing something wrong or do I just need to stick to day time synths?
