I've seen a few new Asus TP300L for sale around here, and they all have the same specs: Core i3-4030U, 4GB, 500GB HDD and Integrated graphics. At $490, it's quite a steal considering where I live. My doubts though is whether I can add another 4GB RAM stick or not, and whether the CPU is enough for me. I would plug it to another monitor (not high res anyway) and use GIMP on it. I might also use Audacity for some simple editing. Would this be fine?

Another 4gb. You have not explained how much is in the one you want to buy.

According to the specs,
Memory Size: 6GB
Memory Type: DDR3L
Memory Speed: 1600
Memory Socket: 2 x SO-DIMM
Max. Memory Support: 12GB

This tells me there are 2 SO-DIMM slots (common laptop memory size)
each ones supports a 6GB DIMM. I have never seen a 6GB DIMM but
does not mean they aren't out there. 2 of them give you 12GB.
You might have to get them from Asus. A quick search just
offered me 4GB and 8GB SO-DIMMs. No 6GB.

I am getting conflicting specs. There are different variants of this
laptop/tablet. Some say max 8gb per slot up to 16GB.
But, the good news is unlike traditional tablets like a Surface,
the memory is up-gradable.

Seems to be a good machine. Reviews think the touch screen in tablet mode
is not all that great. But, it has good performance. It should run GIMP and
Audacity just fine.

They all have 4GB RAM by default, and I want to add another 4GB. That seems fine then.
