How to change email address associated to XBOX Music Pass login

Hi all

I just got a Nokia Lumia 928, first Windows phone since TouchPro 2 days. I have a question re: the XBOX Music Pass. I've been a long-time Zune Pass user, with the grandfathered subscription that includes 10 credits / month. The email I use to login into my Zune software is a gmail account address, however, I used my Microsoft Live email address to setup my phone. I'm sure you see where this is going, and I am wondering how I go about changing my Zune / XBOX Music account settings such that I can now access the music pass when logged in with my MS Live account email address, versus the previous gmail address.

I've searched a bit and have found some older Microsoft support postings in which MS states this can be done, but only via logging into an XBOX 360 console, which I do not have. I have seen other threads on this forum in which it would require I reset my phone, and then use my gmail account as the primary email address during initial setup. I could then add my MS Live account as an additional account, and configure the appropriate sync options for each account.

As I'm trying to cut the umbilical cord to Google, I'd prefer to migrate everything over to my Live account, plus I do currently use SkyDrive (and OneNote), which are linked to my Live account.

Any thoughts?

  1. Go to Billing Account Information and sign in with the Microsoft account (email and password) that’s associated with your Xbox LIVE account.Note If you don’t know your Microsoft account sign-in or password, see Find your Microsoft account.
  2. Clickprofile, and then click edit profile.
  3. Depending on your settings, you might be taken directly to the Profile page (if so, skip to step 5 now), or you might be taken to the “Help us protect your account” page” (if so, click Next or I already have a code).

I had tried these steps previously, and the way I understand it, changing my email address in the account profile only changes the destination email address for account information / notification messages. It does not change the actual email you use to login to your account.

I did contact both XBox Music support and Windows Phone 8 support on this. Unfortunately, there is no way to change the login information for XBox / Zune Music Pass without canceling and creating a new account. That is not an option for me because I am currently grandfathered with my older Zune Music Pass with the 10 free music credits / month. So, I did a hard reset on my phone, changed my default account login to my "XBox / Zune Pass" gmail address so that I could then access my XBox Music content on the phone. However, another gotcha' I learned is that also prevented me from accessing my SkyDrive account (created with the @Live account). So... I had to migrate all my content over to the other SkyDrive account that was created against my gmail address.

I'm happy now, just still feel kind of funny being stuck with this gmail address as my primary Microsoft account login.
