Can't connect to PC

Whenever I connect my phone to a PC I get a USB device not recognized message. I tried with different cables, including the original, on a few different PCs, after a hard reset, after installing the WP app from the App store and also the desktop app, even the HTC sync app.

HTC support had nothing helpful to say, suggesting it was an issue with (all three) of my computer(s.) Verizon wants to send me a new device, but I'm not totally convinced that this one is defective. Has anyone else had this sort of issue?

Fwiw, my Icon works fine.

I can't really help although I wish I could. All I know is that my M8 (T-Mobile) has no issue connecting to my computer. I don't know what OS you have on your computers. I have Windows 8.1 and didn't have to install anything extra for it to recognize my phone. It would be frustrating for me if I were experiencing what you are. Maybe someone will come along and have some answers.
