Dell XPS 14 (9440) review: An outstanding Windows laptop, thanks to its minimalist design, superior display, and powerful graphics

Technically, the score is 4.6 out of 5 stars, which is what you get when you add up my individual scores and divide by 8. Our CMS, however, doesn't make that distinction and rounds up the stars. That said, I can force it down to 4.5.

Dell XPS 14 (9440) review: An outstanding Windows laptop, thanks to its minimalist design, superior display, and powerful graphics

I stand by my score. "The cost is outrageous." Something being expensive, which I noted in the cons, doesn't mean it's not a good laptop, which is what my review is about. What is cost prohibitive to one person is not to another. And, as we frequently post about, Dell runs many sales...

Dell XPS 14 (9440) review: An outstanding Windows laptop, thanks to its minimalist design, superior display, and powerful graphics

"I haven't used a Dell laptop for more than two weeks since 2020. Can't say much about it." Is this a joke? With all due respect, you haven't even tried the laptop, by your own admission, so I'm not sure why I am supposed to value your review/feedback on it. "The touch row is borderline...

Dell XPS 14 (9440) review: An outstanding Windows laptop, thanks to its minimalist design, superior display, and powerful graphics

Which reviews? Only a few sites had an XPS 14 review sample. I see Digital Trends gave it 3.5 out of 5, but in the video review, it said, "Better than you think," and gushed about it. Tom's Guide and TechRadar have a "hands-on review but not a full one with a score. Are you confusing this with...

Viral video rightly shows how Microsoft's HoloLens is way ahead of Apple's Vision Pro

In one sense, you're right, but in another, I'm not so sure. Let's be clear: Apple made arguably the best VR headset yet. But VR is still ... niche. Few market analysts are convinced of Apple's vision here, so its stock is doing OK but not exploding like Microsoft's. It's a big risk for Apple...

You're sitting in your computer chair wrong and it could be causing aches and pains — Thank you Razer and 1HP for showing me the error of my ways

Well, that presumes your chair is adequate at being comfortable and supporting good posture. Both of Razer's chairs (Iskur and Enki) are some of the most comfortable chairs I've used (Enki, especially, as I can still sit all day without pain points). But even with the best chair, HOW you sit in...

Results are in: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite goes toe-to-toe with Apple’s new M3 Pro processor

Please explain. As someone who runs ARM PCs regularly, it ABSOLUTELY is about raw power. You can't compare emulation on the 8cx vs. M1/M2/M3 since those Apple chips are like 10x as powerful. Rosetta2 did have a performance impact even on M1, as noted by MacRumors (using unoptimized GeekBench)...

Because it wasn't tested. Also, x86 support has improved every year. Indeed, we're confident that the VERSION of Windows 11 that these reference design PCs were running is unreleased code from Microsoft to support Oryon (everyone will get this update, likely in the spring as part of v-next)...

Maaaybe. Don't discount Meteor Lake, yet. We'll get benchmarks for that this January. It's a major shift for Intel, and it's far from finished as Lunar Lake goes much further.

Results are in: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite goes toe-to-toe with Apple’s new M3 Pro processor

While relevant, I'll say this: Previously, 8cx performed like an 11th Gen Core i5 U-series, but under emulation, it dropped below that, so you 'felt it.' With Oryon performing better than an Intel 13th Gen HX processor (literally a modified desktop CPU) and matching M3 Pro through sheer power...

Agree. The "vs Apple" stuff is good for context (and is fanbait, no doubt), but Qualcomm doesn't actually need to beat Apple at all. They just need to beat Intel and AMD, which it looks like they will.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite can beat Apple’s M2 Max, Intel i9 in new ARM’s race for Windows laptops

Yeah, I agree with that. AMD is likely to be their partner from now on, likely working hand-in-hand with Valve for some customization.

Surface Laptop Studio 2: The quintessential Windows 11 laptop

Thanks! Great question. I can't say precisely how much better battery life would be, but it would be pretty significant (maybe an extra hour or two?). Personally, I'd be fiiiiiine with that model for what I need this laptop for and is the one I'd get. RTX GPUs are great, but if you're doing a...
