typing name of .exe file does not lead to the file

Too bad. Pinning to start, you would think, would be enough to cause the OS to index it. Lord knows I don't need ready access to every single .doc file in my DOCUMENTS folder, but it will find those just fine if I type a few letters. Brian

typing name of .exe file does not lead to the file

I have, on my D drive, a program (.exe file...not an 'app' from the store) titled 'album jukebox.exe'. I am able to pin it to the start menu, but if I type the name in in the 'Ask me anything' field, it does not find the program. What am I missing? Brian

"Hey Cortana" - Any PC users actually still using it?

Well, even though the Anniversary Update got Cortana working better, my main two-in-one tablet/PC (Acer Switch 10) still struggles. Maybe the problem is it only had 2gb of memory. I ended up picking up one of these today, so hopefully my Windows 10 experiences will be much better now...

"Hey Cortana" - Any PC users actually still using it?

Well, after running the Anniversary Update on my fairly low-end laptop, Cortana now seems to be working well enough. MUCH better than it was before the upgrade. I hope that lasts. If it continues to work this well, I'll keep using it. I like to be able to ask the time and temp, set timers...

"Hey Cortana" - Any PC users actually still using it?

The "Hey Cortana" voice recognition was probably THE major reason I was a very early upgrader from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. In my experience, on my multiple PC's, it has never worked to where I was able to use it. It's not a question of voice recognition nearly as much as just extreme...

Would a new PC work better, generally?

Well, I do need to be able to use a touchscreen with the desktop. The primary function of it in my living room is as a touchscreen jukebox, running DWJukebox and playing a lifetime's worth of collected music (my lp's, cassettes, CD's) converted to mp3's. So that pretty much requires an all-in-one.

Would a new PC work better, generally?

I have Windows 10 installed on three PC's. 1. My primary, an approximately 3 year old MSI all-in-one. 2. My laptop, an Acer "Switch 10" convertible entry-level PC with detachable keyboard. 3. A Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet. None of these are high-end PC's. All have extremely poor performance...

    Share purchased apps with family

Not true. In the past, programs were often offered with the ability to install on 'up to 3 PC's', for example. The Microsoft Store could opt for this kind of arrangement, but instead ties its programs to an account, rather than to hardware. The previous arrangement was definitely more...

Why not lightweight calendar as part of Windows?

I just tried opening the Windows 10 Calendar, and it took about 5 seconds to load to get to the point of wanting me to set it up to link stuff to it. Not what I'm looking for. I use a PIM program (Time & Chaos) for calendar events and 'stuff'. Date/Time in the taskbar is OK, but it would be...

Why not lightweight calendar as part of Windows?

For the longest time, I've wished that there was a simple calendar utility available as part of the Windows Operating System. There's a calculator. There's a notepad. But if you want to look up a date in the future or the past, be prepared to load something major. Is it just me, or do...

    Are people happy with performance?

Reposting this to Windows 10 forum now that I re-found my login info.... Every computer that I've upgraded to Windows 10 is now very sluggish. For example, if I try to type anything in the Cortana search field, I have to wait several seconds for the cursor to actually be ready for accepting a...

Anyone else having problems with Edge browser after recent updates?

I liked Edge when I first used it, but now it seems like I can't do anything on a page until Edge decides that it's 'ready'. I think that means all the other images and media on the page are finished loading. In Firefox, I can scroll down and read a page immediately. I never used Internet...

I don't follow you. How do you "go into Programs"?

Pin File to Start Menu - Windows 10

This, to me, is the worst thing about the "Start Menu". I don't know why there are such restrictions about adding items. "All Apps" is certainly not all the programs on my PC. I feel we should be able to add things that aren't there, and I'd include frequently accessed files as something I...

    Bluetooth Audio Devices

Right mouse click on the little speaker icon in the system tray. Select "Playback Devices". Then make sure only the desired Bluetooth speaker is selected. This drove me totally crazy until I saw a post on another forum. The ability to choose what to connect to should be under "Bluetooth"...
