Well, I think you killed the PCB with static electricity or by short circuiting it. I think I had the same problem with a Lumia 820. The glass was broken but the screen still worked. After replacing the glass, the screen didn't work any more. :(

No problems with my Lenovo Y50-70 2015 model (I7-4720HQ, GTX 960M, 8 GB RAM). I do have a strange problem that the start menu and some other taskbar apps don't work once in a while. A reboot helps but it's so annoying.

It is a hardware failure, though it could have been caused by the 8.1 update. I have had the same issue. Nokia Care took care of it and replaced the microphone under warranty, now it works properly.

I love my second gen Lumia 925. It has a decent processor, a proper screen and a very good camera. Also the battery life is quite good. For now, why would I switch? It's a good phone and it's solidly built. I'm planning to keep it for at least another year.

The main problem is that Windows Phone 8.1 does not support USB OTG. Therefore a phone without SD card slot, can not have external storage.
