I too was facing the same problem. That's actually a settings issue. Under the speech settings, set it back to US, and then uncheck "Improve recognition for non native speakers". Then change the speech settings back to UK. (While all other settings are under India) Now, cortana should understand...

you should have checked this out before buying it. Try doing a hard reset. If it doesn't help, try flashing it. If this too doesn't help, probably changing the screen may help. But can't guarantee that changing the screen will help as this could be a problem on the main board too.... Good luck.

Get the refurbished one. You'll have support too from AT&T if anything goes wrong. But 150 for an unlocked device is a pretty good deal.
