One heck of a week for W10 Mobile. What's everyone feeling?

I've been fully invested in Microsoft’s ecosystem at home and professionally for a long time. All the negative articles last week pushed me to take off my rose-coloured glasses and seriously consider what I would buy if I couldn't get a decent mobile device running Windows. That lead to some...

Can W10M version of Cortana play music?

Cortana wouldn't play my local music by name from the SD card. I moved it all to built-in storage. It made no difference. Cortana would only recognize streaming music. However I'm pleased to report this is now fixed with the Groove 3.6.1573.0 update, Cortana is now aware of music in built-in...

Strange issue moving apps from SD to local storage

I saw almost the same thing on a 950XL except that the medium and large tiles just show the app name. The apps are also missing their icons in the apps list.

Build Quality - Creaking around bottom edge of phone

Here's another easy fix to try. Mine had a creak in the lower left corner, the same one with the slot to remove the back cover. The cover didn't close all the way. There was a fraction of a millimetre gap, so small you could barely see it, but when I pressed on the back cover the slight...

Getting rid of my 950xl, anyone else?

I switched from a 1520 with WP8.1 to a 950XL. My battery life on the 950XL is maybe 25-50% worse. It's hard to say at this point because I'm using the 950XL more than usual. My screen is set to 25% brightness and uses about 65% of the battery. Messaging + Skype uses only 1.5% of the battery. I...

Stuck with 12 months of music passes I can't use

I have four 3-month Zune Music Pass codes I can't use because I have a Canadian account and they are US codes. Has anyone had success getting Microsoft to replace unused Zune codes with new Xbox music codes or otherwise doing some magic for them?

    Odd battery discharge this morning

I had this happen the day after a hard reset and upgrading to 8.1 Dev. Preview. I rebooted once or twice and it hasn't done it since. I didn't have this problem after upgrading to Cyan and the latest Dev. Preview update 1. The Battery Saver app didn't give me any clue what caused it.

Problem with 1520 and Miracast via PTV-3000

When I had a PTV-3000 I had to use unreleased firmware to get it to work. I would check if there isn't newer firmware then they list on their website. I found mine on a forum somewhere. The technology never worked reliably so I sold mine.

Is finger on the screen scrolling supposed to be this jittery?

Are you plugged into AC when you notice this? I don't have an SP3 but I had another tablet that had jumping scrolling only on AC power. On battery power it was smooth.

    Con or Sheer stupidity?

I had a Galaxy Note. It was a bit bulky so when I switched to Windows Phone I was looking forward to having a smaller phone again, the 925. Six months later I found I was never using my phone. It was just too small to comfortably consume content. I got a 1520 a couple weeks ago and have been...

Canadian review / user experience with the 1520.3 (RM-938 variant)

Check the B&H website. It will show the exact price you pay including shipping and customs charges (mostly tax). You pay everything to B&H and owe nothing when it gets to. It took two days to get to Kitchener Ontario.

Soon to be New 1520 Owner

Do you know what carrier you want to go with? Your RM-937 does not have the frequency bands for Wind/Moblicity. It also doesn't have the right bands for LTE with some (maybe all) of the other carriers. Look into it before you get a plan you can't fully use.

Soon to be New 1520 Owner

Only a capacitive stylus will work on the 1520. Your Surface Pro 2 stylus isn't capacitive, it's uses Wacom technology and requires a special sensor layer under the screen which the 1520 doesn't have. But you can use any stylus that will work with an iPad, the kind that has a soft foam tip. They...

Canadian review / user experience with the 1520.3 (RM-938 variant)

I can use it one handed and I'm shorter than you. My thumb can reach to the opposite side to type in portrait mode. It's not as comfortable as with a smaller phone but I don't text or email much at all so it doesn't bother me. The keyboard in landscape mode is less than half the height of the...
