With all of the recent FPS and MMO's coming to the Iphone and Android, Microsoft had better get someone to start making good games quick, that is a huge portion of the smartphone industry and as of now Xbox live on WM7 isn't really impressing.

XNA indie games won't put WP7 on the map, it's a great filler but Microsoft needs some big title games to compete with the Iphone. Xbox live is crucial to WP7 being a strong platform, indie games while sometimes great won't define the platform, not with what is currently out for the Iphone...
