Why won't my Outlook Mail status clear unless the app is opened?

Outlook Mail status won't clear unless app opened

Outlook Mail won't clear it's status on the lock screen if I just clear the notifications by swiping from the top of the screen. If I do the same for messaging the status disappears. The only way to get the status to clear on the lock screen is to open the Outlook Mail app and view the inbox (don't actually have to open the new email just opening the app clears the status on the lock screen).

This has been annoying me too. I think they clear after a while but it takes some time.
