Finally got round to sending my smashed 1020 off to be fixed, insurer won't mend but has given me a £219 settlement.
I'm torn between getting another 1020, or jumping ship to the 950xl. The camera is the most important feature to me. The 1020s camera had become increasingly buggy. The other option is the Acer Jade ( which I could actually afford new) the dual sim would be very handy, but no physical camera button, which would irk and the camera isn't supposed to be as good as the 950.
Any advice from you guys?

Don't skimp, buy premium.
The 950XL can be bought today for $300-350. Shop around.
If you want a phone to last several years, choose one with a replaceable battery, buy a good case too.
I wouldn't buy any phone more than 2 yrs old.

Yeah go for the 950xl. The only thing you'll miss from the 1020 is the awesome lossless zoom. I still miss that 3 years after giving up my 1020. Oh and the Xenon Flash too actually! I got my 950xl (unlocked and practically brand new) online from C.E.X for £195 in January so you could still have money left over from your insurance pay out

Did you put windows 10 mobile on your 1020?...If yes, and you are okay with it, then go for the 950 XL...if not, i would suggest getting another 1020...i wouldnt recommend the XL to anyone at this point (just got a new one as a replacement and still want to get rid of it)...but thats just me

Dov1978 - It was CeX I was looking at buying it from funnily enough.

Yes, I have been happy with the 1020 ( had even been using it with a smashed screen for months), I hadn't updated to W10, but in the last 6mths, IE has been dreadful and the camera quality has slipped. I had started to wonder if it was time to move on. But I will miss the loss less zoom.

I just got 1. It's really nice and...I can't stand it. I can't stand the difference between this and my 1520 that it replaced. Screen is too small, I need another 6 inch phone or need to buy another 1520. The phone itself is really nice though. I bought the dual sim version from MS. It is quick, especially after the last update, camera is great and has been issue free so far. If you want to move up and stay the Windows Phone family, this would be a great choice. Unless you are coing from a 1520 like me. Man it's tough.

The only advantage the 1020 has over the 950 XL is the camera. Otherwise, the 950 XL is a lighter phone with a larger screen, a bit more zip under the hood and a very capable camera within its own right.

Well I now have a 950xl! Only issue is that it is a UAE M.East variant, but a huge plus is it's unexpectedly a dual sim, which means I can ditch my second phone. Just hope there are no update issues, with it not being a Euro variant.
It's charging now, looks good, had a quick trial run, camera seems quick, screen quality looks sparkling. Just need to nip out and get a nano sim.

The 950XL is a great phone, it might not match the 1020 hi-res camera but the camera does excel when the conditions and right.
Enjoy your phone..!!

Hmm...Thinking the proximity sensor might be faulty. Glance isn't working properly, although there's an update waiting so I'll see if that helps.

Update hasn't helped and the front facing camera is throwing up an error code. Not sure whether to just return it?
