Hello, I'm looking for some advice about the Recovery partition on our Surface 2.

If I make a USB recovery and choose to delete the partition from the Surface to gain storage. What happens if I later run the recovery from USB, will that restore the recovery partition once again on the Surface or is the recovery partition lost for ever?

I'm thinking that it will return but can anyone confirm?

Because the recovery will create it again. At least according to the Diskpart.txt file on the USB recovery.

Code:
rem == ResetPartitions-UEFI.txt ==

convert gpt

rem == 1. Windows RE tools partition ===============

create partition primary size=305

format quick fs=ntfs label="Windows RE tools"

assign letter="T"

set id=de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac

gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001

rem == 2. System partition =========================

create partition efi size=100

format quick fs=fat32 label="System"

assign letter="S"

rem == 3. Microsoft Reserved (MSR) partition =======

create partition msr size=128

rem == 4. Windows partition ========================

rem == a. Create the Windows partition ==========

create partition primary

rem == b. Create space for the recovery image ===

shrink minimum=2943

rem == c. Prepare the Windows partition =========

format quick fs=ntfs label="Windows"

assign letter="W"

rem === 5. Recovery image partition ================

create partition primary

format quick fs=ntfs label="Recovery image"

assign letter="R"

set id=de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac

gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001

list volume

exit

But I haven't tried it so I can't be sure. I'm guessing you haven't tried it?

I'm fairly certain it does return. It restores the device to it's factory, out of the box configuration, partitions and all.

Yes I think you are right. I have already removed it now so I'll know what happens next time I reset it.

Thanks.
