Where I work I am the ONLY person with a USB C device and that one device, on the other side, also has a standard usb connector. I have it in the small chance of someone bringing a USB device to me that only has the one port.

USB C 'might' catch on in two years but by that point there will probably emerge a NEW port.

P.s. Which version of USB C do you need as there's a few?

I completely disagree with you. I have serious doubts if USB-C will ever be a wide standard. It could go the way of Thunderbolt and be replaced by something in the future before it becomes "the" standard. I have nothing that uses it today, and don't intend to be getting anything that does in the future.

Sigh. Could you be more specific? This doesn't speak much you know? How does this effect the Surface Pro in all honesty?

Tell me, what kind of advantages would USB-C have for you on Surface Pro? Transferring speed? That would start to be useful with 1TB and more capacities. And it's not likely you would transfer such a huge amount of data on a tablet. External GPU? It's a tablet not a gaming machine or editing workstation.

    I don't get it.

Many desktops and motherboards for custom built computers still lack USB C, none of this will be useless in 2 years time.

Yes I like USB C, but I have ZERO need for it, don't even own a phone or device with it yet.

Besides if you don't think the Surface Pro is good, go buy something else. Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, and Asus all make 2 in 1 tablets with a kickstand and similar design, most of them have USB C. There are other alternatives from less known brands, and the likes of Samsung and Huawei make tablets with folio keyboards. You have plenty of options to pick from.

No one but a very small number of nerds actually cares about USB-C. In fact, to most people, USB-C is just an annoyance and not something they need to use. I've said this before and I'll repeat it there: I have two USB-C ports on the X630 and I would gladly get rid of them in exchange for, for example, a mini-display port and a microSD card reader.

I don't use USB-C peripherals (in fact, there barely are any) and I don't intend to start using dongles.

The Surface Pro 5 will be absolutely fine for the next 5 years.

it's the vocal minority and the tech press that is pushing USB-C so hard because there are virtually no USB-C devices to use and for people to make USB-C devices, they need the computers and phones to all have USB-C.

why would HP make a USB-C printer if almost no desktop computers don't have the ports? in fact, they bet on wireless printing which is much smarter.

right now, 95% of people are using USB-C just for charging. such a high tech port just for charging!

I've had to buy a new charging cable because the one that came with my Samsung Galaxy S8 is now dedicated to the car since the charging cable is a USB-C to USB-A cable and my car requires USB-A. So for me to charge at home, I needed a new cable. Meanwhile, I have tons of MicroUSB, Mini USB and USB-A cables.

Seriously, how am I not supposed to lose these dongles? Carry around a purse for them?

    img_2184s.jpg

Yes, let's just leave it attached to my sleek phone. /s

Probably depends how far into the future we're talking about here. More devices still use type A and B, and people don't like change very much, especially if it means having to carry adaptors for type C in a world that still predominantly uses types A or B. I know I don't like having to use adaptors. That's why I stopped using Apple products.
