    Quick Overview.

The Q has profiles, with automatic selection. (Automatic ring suppress during meeting times, etc)

The Q does not have an option to sync desktop files. IE, no folder created on desktop when activesync partnership is established.

The Q has does not have a built in spell checker- no 3rd party solution yet either, but rumored to be soon.

The Q does not have copy and paste out of the box. However, a very elegant 3rd party app is available and free.

The Q can not link to a URL in embedded in an SMS. (It can in emails)

IE on the Q cannot start on a homepage. It defaults to favorites only.

The Q can navigate email folders one handed. (Obviously)

Overall the Q feels like a very powerful phone while the Treo feels as much like a PDA as it does a phone.

The Q however has the very best form available anywhere IMO. The battery gets me through a day and overall I feel like I am losing very little.
The treo is more robust though, no question.

    Quick Tip:
Mobsync is free & will synchronize folders on your PC to your Q, even to folders on the MiniSD!!

    i really like my Q :)

Edit: Btw this works with the WX as well.

Thanks for the tip. I will check that out

I am really starting to like mine too. The form factor is just great. The WX is a great device as well, but it really start to feel "old" fast. And I spent a lot of time tweaking the hell out of it.

    Thanks again

Oh and make sure once you got it running, go into Tools-Options and set "Automatic Starting when devices connect" so it will work as you say, when you make the connection.

    Couple more little things;

There is no API for backlight settings. The device runs at full brightness or can be hacked to operate at a very low (non adjustable) setting that the Q defaults to when the battery is critically low.

Microsoft/Sprint did not bundle voice command on the Q. You get voicesignal's software which is a joke in comparison.

While tweaking DNS server settings is possible through the registry they dont stick. The default settings on the WX never bothered me, but I feel like the tweak is needed with the Q. (You can change them, and experience the difference- they just dont hold)

There are one touch hard buttons for voice command/speakerphone, camera, and email. Nice.

Bluetooth range is awesome. Bluetooth on this phone is actually enjoyable to use.

Voice quality is awesome. Both through the earpiece and speakerphone.

The backlight screen is active when charging with the phone powered off. (WHY?!?!?!)

The keyboard backlight is not bright enough. The treos is too bright OTOH.

I've been trying a Verizon Black Q for the past two weeks and I'd like to add two things to your list.

1.) Bluetooth actually works with other devices like cars and headsets (unlike the Treo which has problems with lots of them). And the profile automatically switches to headset or car when connected.

2.) The Q also works great as a wireless modem via USB or Bluetooth without having to reset it almost every time to get it work like the Treo does.

In general I'm finding that the Q doesn't do as much (theoretically) but what it does do works. The Bluetooth is second to none unlike the Treo which has one of the buggiest implementations I've ever seen (this applies to all the WM Treos). And some things I like better than the Treo. I like the fact that IE opens on favorites, I've been trying to find a way to get the Treo to do this. And my favorite calendar app Agenda One actually runs smoother and faster on the Q than on the Treo 750.

I must also agree. I'm loving the blackjack right now, and I wouldn't trade it for a q right now either. Samsung made some really nice customizations to this thing:

Press and hold home key: task manager

Customizable buttons: right soft key, press and hold volume (can only use voice record or voice command though), press-and-hold BACK key, and numbered shortcuts to speed dial AND programs (like the palm os treos).

They also have a couple of extra homescreens to choose from, but I custmized mine.

Battery lasts well into the night, although others complain about theirs I've seen

AKU 3.0 (includes MS file explorer)

    RSS for free built-in

My only complaints are the keylock (you need to press 3 buttons to disengage, ridiculous), and top buttons are a little cramped. Used to hit the wrong button a lot but I got used to it.

Def worth looking at if you are a GSM user.

No question size wise the Blackjack is pretty nice. My main concern for not trying it is that I've heard lots of complaints about the bluetooth. I can't find a good answer for whether it will work with my car. My closest Cingular store has gotten new management with at&t and they are idiots. My told that since I've returned a phone before I can't return another one. My now claim that the return is only if you open a new line, you can't return a phone you purchase full price if it doesn't work! What morons, how do people like this get into jobs where you have to talk to customers? Sorry about the off topic comments.

Does the Q have Threaded SMS? Does it do MMS? I have had the Treo 700wx for a week now and I am just about fed up with it. Why the hell sell me the pic/video pack for a phone that can't even send video's (Sprint). It's bull...

It does with a 3rd party program (free): http://www.everythingq.com/option,co...,31/Itemid,67/

I'm seriously contemplating the Q. Have a 6700 coming this week, but I think I'll just throw it back on ebay. The more I read about the Q, the only thing I think I'll have to get over is losing the touchscreen. Most seem to get over that rather quickly.

No, the Q does not have threaded SMS. There have been attempts to port both the Palm WM5-PPC threaded SMS program over to the Q, and a couple of other attempts by developers, but none that work reliably.

I'd probably stay away from the Q. I went from the 700wx to the Q and am regretting it a bit. The form factor and the Bluetooth was nice, but I didn't like the smartphone functionality as much as the PPC, and the typing on the Q is horrible. If you type somewhat fast, the Q will always miss keystrokes and you will have to go back and edit everything you just wrote. It gets to be very frustrating after a while if you type any faster than the hunt-and-peck method.

It helps a lot if you go to Start/Settings/Accessibility and Turn off Multipress ("No auto advance").

also, rumor has it that they are going to upgrade the Q to WM6. Brings quite a bit to the table: (quoted from everythingq.com)

WM6 adds tons of features, a lot under the hood (speedier, faster boot, better graphics, new sounds, built in VOIP) but also

    - HTML email
    - Search server for email (Exchange 2007)
    - Hotkeys for email
    - Windows Live intergration (Messenger, search, etc. including audio clips)
    - Storage card encryption/better security/certificates
    - New calender system
    - Office Mobile for smartphone (finally)
    - Faster IE ("33% speed improvement"), AJAX support, new Home page
can only hope threaded SMS is in there too. If not, maybe it will fix the quirks in the OS to allow the 3rd party developers to update the current non-working threading programs.

Turning off 'Text Prediction' works even better (start/settings-Text Input Settings, uncheck 'Text Prediction') for the typing issue.

no part of WM6 includes threaded SMS, so that's probably not going to be included unfortunately.

I guess it would be good for 3rd party threaded tools to work, but so far they're all .NET CF apps.. boo!

Yes the battery life will only last through the evening. However if you upgrade the battery you can get three days. My wife love her Q, but misses the touch screen.
