On 950 you can't zoom, the same as in other phones. However it's true 1020 is old, but working fine. You'll have to purchase a more recent phone with photography capabilities when you renew. Perhaps an Apple phone ?

No question of buying anything out of windows ecosystem.
And I don't want to spend more than 15k INR around 215 USD now.
My academics made me cut my budget.
So I'm seriously considering a 640 xl ( 185 USD on amazon India).

Lumia 1020 is able to zoom from 26mm to 70mm equivalent optic and the pics obtained are 3270 X 1728 pixels at 70mm, with no digital resampling.

I'm too planning on getting a brand new lumia 1020 from amazon for 200$. the main reason is for the camera sensor. I own a lumia 950xl. I have seen a camera samples from a lumia 1020. the detail in photos is now way close to my 950xl. ois, color accuracy, low light imaging is better on a lumia 950xl. but damn the 1020 is a legacy!

On 1020 pics resolution is outstanding, colors are good (on auto) on many occasions but sometimes you have to do some tweaking on PhotoShop. DNG format allows you to "take" (in some way) the photo again.

The 1020 had a problem with causing "yellowing" in the photos. My 1020 experience is dated, however so maybe that was fixed.

The 640XL has been the all around Best Lumia; the 950XL was a disaster (ran hot, cheap, creaky back, terrible battery, and random restarts) and I gladly got $650 store credit and 640XL for $79.

Anyway good luck with 1020, and I hope no yellowing...

Just took the plunge on a pristine L1020. I only want to use it as a camera so there is that.

Anxiously waiting on delivery.

Great, RN! Me too, and just got it a few minutes ago. I am starting a new thread in case our good folks here can pitch in with advice at this early stage (for us :))

I too have been looking for a 2nd hand 930, 1520, 1020 and started another thread here.

I tried ordering a 1520 from Ebay US, listed 130 $ but including customs and other charges, it turned out to be 200 $. The phone was an AT&T refurbished mobile which kept shutting down after 1 minute of gaming or some minutes of whatsapp. Freakish battery levels were the issue!

So am in (long) process of returning it to Ebay and looking for local resale listings.
Have got 200 $ deal for 1020 and 1520, because in India we rarely get 80-100 $ deals for such phones.

I too, am a fan of Lumia cameras. I find 1520 (during my limited usage) was good for videos and photos in good lighting, but was very hazy in artificial lighting in offices and restuarants.

Hence am also looking for 1020 options, just because of its zoom capabilities and clear photography (if we can bear slowness).

Still thinking if I need blazing fast phone, win 10 compatible, awesome screen size, very capable camera (1520) or best zoom, good still photography, windows 8.1, average battery, average storage(1020)!

What ever zoom in 1520, looks extremely bad during videos. I like to shoot Table tennis videos at office, and 1020 might struggle capturing the movements I guess!

Very confused :)
