Wireless charging

Is anyone else here on the fence because of the change to wireless charging standards? I'm okay with the idea of needing a shell, but I'm a bit annoyed that AT&T is moving away from Qi to PMA. While not heavily invested (I've only one pad and one stand), the convenience factor is currently a sticking point. I know I could spend an extra $200 for an international version from Negri, but I really don't know if it's worth it (installed storage space isn't an issue for me).

Anyone else weighing this same issue?

Network compatibility trumps wireless charging for me so the international version Negri is currently selling doesn't appeal. To be honest I think I am more on the fence because of the size than charging. Charging just makes it easier to hold off for a couple of months and see what develops.

I don't like cases (especially on a giant 6" phone) so having to add one is a huge irritant. I'll probably just live without wireless charging.

I really wish someone could spill the beans on this whole DTM thing
Wiki says it allows you to do voice/data at the same time
but M$ has that capability listed on its site

Yes, but the data drops back to 3G when you're in a voice call. SGLTE (simultaneous GSM/LTE) is not supported by many phones yet.

damn... my Verizon LTE phone stayed on LTE during calls
but all the money in the world wouldn't persuade me to stay with them

I guess its not all that bad, how often do you do both anyway

I only see three variants on this website, T Moore.

RM-937, Global variant: EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100, LTE band 1 (2100), 3 (1800), 7 (2600), 8 (900) & 20 (800), LTE Cat 4 (150 Mbps Downlink, 50 Mbps Uplink), HSDPA+ Cat24 (42.1 Mbps), HSUPA Cat 6 (5.76 Mbps)

RM-938, US variant: EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/900/1700-2100/1900/2100, LTE band 2, (1900), 4 (1700/2100), 5 (850), 7 (2600) & 17 (700), LTE Cat 4 (150 Mbps Downlink, 50 Mbps Uplink), HSDPA+ Cat24 (42.1 Mbps), HSUPA Cat 6 (5.76 Mbps)

RM-939, WCDMA HSPA+ variant: EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100, HSDPA+ Cat24 (42.1 Mbps), HSUPA Cat 6 (5.76 Mbps)

AT&T can't disable LTE band 4 for LTE. Their network has LTE on both band 4 and 17.

The MS store clearly states:

LTE network bands: 2, 4, 5, 7, 17 • LTE max data speed DL: 150 Mbps • LTE max data speed UL: 50 Mbps • WCDMA network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz • WCDMA maxdata speed DL: HSDPA - 21.1 Mbps • WCDMA max data speed UL: HSUPA - 5.76 Mbps • GSM network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz • GSM max data speed DL: EGPRS 236.8kbps• GSM max data speed UL: EGPRS 236.8 kbps

I think the limitation with T-Mobile on the RM-940 is the HSPA+ connections, not the LTE.

On the wireless charging front, I think there are more cons than pros to PMA:

Pro: People who would buy a case can consider a PMA case, adding back the intentionally gimped feature while getting a case

Cons: A case on a 6" phone is just too much for me.
The exposed pins is such a klugey way for the standard to work (compare to Lumia 920 Qi integration).

From what I understand the physical part required for the charging amounts to a sticker. Probably like those security tags. So I wonder if someone would come up with a caseless solution?

Anyway, I've found wireless charging kind of a pain sometimes. If you need to use your phone and the battery is low a wire works much better.

So can I purchase a RM-938 that has Qi charging and will be fully functional with AT&T?

I rarely use wireless charging on my 920 personally. Typically I need to use my phone while it's charging so having to hold the phone and charging plate is annoying at best so I prefer to have the cable attached at the bottom instead to make it more usable. It also adds weight so with a phone this size that is another plus for me. I won't miss it in its current form.

When I saw the 1520 rumors, it was going to be a no-brainer for me, even if it was going to mean spending a couple months trying to get it unlocked and leaving me without HSPA+ compatibility on TMo.

Then AT$T fixed it by halving the storage and leaving QI off, and suddenly it's a brainer.

And BTW, an SD card won't make up the diff when most of what I want to put on it is books from audible.
