Hi there!
Please some one to explain what are the differences between RM 985 or RM 984 . Only in firmware, Lte bands, hardware, or something else?
I already bought one from ebay.uk, but it is not still in my hands ( I live in Bulgaria) and do not know which will arrive - RM 985 or RM 984.
I really need of glance screen and this is the reason to buy 830, otherwise i would buy 930

RM-984 is the global variant and will work on ATT in USA for HSPA/LTE. RM-985 is the Latin American variant with the AWS bands for HSPA+ and will get LTE on TMobile in the USA.

Here are the bands for RM-985
LTE700 (17), 850 (5), 1700 (4) 1900 (2) 2600 (7); WCDMA 850, 900, 1900, 2100 and GSM networks 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz ( RM-985 variant)

Here are the bands for RM-984
Network:
2G Network: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network: HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network: LTE 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600

So this are differences only between LTE bands. Because there is still no lte in Bulgaria this is not important for me.

The major question for me now is about firmware and glance support
Because in this forum i red that Rm 984 is running Denim firmware with glance support and RM 985 is running Debian firmware without glance support for the now.

AT&T's LTE network is bands 700mhz 1700mhz 1900mhz 2300mhz.
None of those bands are published as supported by the RM-894, so I doubt it would work on AT&T LTE

It looks like the RM-895 would work very well on AT&T as well as T-Mobile.

If you get the RM-985 as soon as Nokia officially launches the 830 in Latin America you can update to Denim using Nokia Software Tool by flashing the official Denim firmware for your RM-985.

An AT&T variant typically breaks usability on T-Mobile in some way and in this one they also added PMA charging. And of course their logo on the casing.

I figured the only real differences between the three are what HSPA/LTE bands they support. Does anyone have official information for all 3? The 984 is easy to find online, but the others I've not seen.

http://www.nokiapoweruser.com/2014/...nats-seen-at-fcc-with-att-t-mobile-lte-bands/

It looks like the RM-983 and RM-985 have identical bands, just the RM-983 adds PMA charging.

Interesting that none of the three have HSPA on 1700MHz. Or is that covered by HSPA on 2100Mhz?

Of course, any phone NOT provided by T-Mobile will lack the WiFi Calling feature. If that's important to you, the only current WP devices that T-Mo offers are the 635 and the HTC One (M8) for Windows.

On this thread Which 830 to buy for AT&T?, @sketchy9 has a good post with the data from the user's manuals as posted on the FCC website:

RM-985:
"You can only use your device on the LTE 700 (17), 850 (5), 1700 (4), 1900 (2), 2600 (7); WCDMA 850, 900, 1900, 2100; and GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz networks".

RM-983:
"You can only use your RM-983 device on the LTE 700 (17), 850 (5), 1700 (4), 1900 (2), 2600 (7), Carrier Aggregation 4+17, 17+2; WCDMA 850, 900, 1800, 1900; and GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz networks."

RM-984:
"You can only use your device on the LTE 800 (20), 900 (8), 1800 (3), 2100 (1), 2600 (7); WCDMA 850, 900, 1900, 2100; and GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz networks"

As noted in that thread, the WCDMA bands for the 983 are incorrect according to other FCC docs, they match the 984 and 985 and should be "WCDMA 850, 900, 1900, 2100".

It looks like in addition to PMA, the 983 also adds carrier aggregation.

I did a search on the MS Store App and I found an app called "Wi-Fi Calling" published by T-Mobile USA dated 08/20/2014 on version 2.0.0.6. Wouldn't this work?

It's an APP it isn't software, so no it won't allow for Wi-Fi calling on it's own, the carrier would have to send a patch for their/a phone in order for Wi-Fi calling to work on TM. I had that app on my Lumia 810, it was an app to configure Wi-Fi calling not enable it.

I use my Lumia 720 sended from Hong Kong and I can use wifi-calling such as Viber, etc on TMO., so your info isnt correct.

WiFi app from t-mobile is not the dame has apps like viber,Skype, etc. It is carrier enabled feature that allows actual phone calls, txt messages, to be done over WiFi connections.

So my mistake ,was pretty sure ..
Well I was doing my research because I'm gonna pull the trigger on a L830 waiting until a flagship will be released, so I still have one doubt about RM985 and RM-984.

-RM-985 (BH Photo and Video 449$) get LTE on TMO but it wont get H+ (3,5G) right?

-RM-984 ( Amazon 316$ )
It wont get LTE on TMO but it well get H+ on TMO, right????

The only Lumia that will get LTE, H+, 2G from TMO it's the unicorn 1520.3 right??

So the question would be , it is worthless to pay almost 115$ bucks more to get LTE(RM-985 ) on TMO but when you don't get very well signal drop to 2G? ...any comments?

If you're going to use the phone on T-Mo or AT&T get the RM-985; it will get LTE and H+ and in general get you the best "perf" in terms of bands. the RM-984 is optimized for European carrier bands, not US.

Does anyone know if one can flash a Lumia 830 984 with a 985 firmware and thus get LTE coverage?
Cant seem to get a 985...

Even if you flash your phone , it wouldnt work because RM-985 and RM-984 has diferent LTE bands spec, (RM_984 doesnt has 1700 band ) and the most probably its you will end with a non-working phone.

If you want to buy a Lumia 830 RM-985 unlocked, here in the US teres only 2 options ,,,,

1) BH Photo Video ( 449$ no US warranty)
2) Microsoft Store ( 499 $ US warranty)

Both pones are totally unlocked , and you will get 4G LTE with T-Mobile or AT&T.

Good luck!
