Has the new non-beta version of Skype fixed the overheating and crash issue? I can't use my skype video chat more than 10 minutes before the phone hard crashes, probably due to the immense heat coming from the back near the top.

never heard that the Skype will over heat the phone, yours seems to be a rare case.
It did to mine too. After video-chatting for awhile the casing get REALLY hot.. haven't tested since the update. But Skype really do need to up their frequency of updating WP8 app, the Win8 app gets an update like every week

The overheating is partly due to any app running, but the most of the heat comes from the screen itself. Try loading a single web-page and just read it (leave the screen on for aproximately 10-15 mins), and u'll see that the upper right corner gets heated first, that the whole upper part of the screen and phone.

I have the latest version of Skype, and after 10 minutes of video chat, it gets super hot and eventually hard crashes to black screen.
