Unlocking 920 and 640 without a sim card?

I just got the unlock codes from ATT for my cyan 920 and 640, was planning on unlocking before listing for sale. The instructions are telling me I need to install a non-ATT sim to get the box to enter the code. Is there anyway around that, or should I just hold onto the code and let the buyer deal with it when putting in his sim card?

Those are indeed the two options. I usually do the latter since I don't usually have a SIM to unlock either.
