The key thing with PowerPoints is to keep them simple. Nothing wrong with some effects. But as the saying goes, pictures are worth a 1000 words and make anything you have have on them easily read by your audience. Putting too much information on one slide is a big mistake. Better to go to two or three slides for information than just one. It allows for people to absorb the information rather than information overload.
Your PowerPoint is really about the important points of your presentation and providing impact. It's a vehicle. It's not the full information. If there is a lot of information you can provide handouts of what you plan to say.
