Ive had a look on the windows app store and is the file weight the amount of space it takes up on the phone? How much space do apps generally take up?
Thanks

I'm not familiar with the term file weight, but if you mean file size then it means the required amount of space on the hard drive necessary to install the file.

For example, say you have a 500MB hard drive.

The app requires 10MB

That means you're left with 490MB after installing the app.

You can now pull up a detailed list of all your apps and their size. My largest app (Games take up more space) is Assassins Creed at 285 MB, Smallest is 3.5 MB for SendToWP7 (one of the 1st apps I got for my WP7 in 2010, it sends links from my Browser to my phone, and despite the name, still works for WP8).

I have 10 apps (all are games but 1, Weave) that are above 100 mb. I then have maybe 80 that are 40MB or less. I'd say my average is 15-20 MB.

And then hopefully you get out of the 1980s quickly. ;) haha

"File Weight" sounds like you are running something through a translator, and it was originally File Size.

On windowsphone.com/en-gb it says file weight. On windowsphone.com/en-us it says download size. They both must mean the same thing, although the US site's terminology makes things more obvious. I think file weight/download size is the amount of data that you'll use up downloading an app to your phone (pertinent if you're on a limited data plan). This is not the same as the amount of memory that the app will take up on your phone because (I'm guessing) apps in the store are compressed specifically to minimize their download size.

For example, I have an app called Met Office. It's file weight/download size is stated as 5MB, but using the new storage check facility in settings I can see that it's taking up 18MB of memory.

Hope this helps.

I know the thread was sidetracked, but did you see this also? [We had the same post time]

These would be INSTALLED numbers
