I would say wait till W8.1 is released and then get a new phone. The reason being, if you do a factory reset, you do not need to go through the WP 8.1 upgrade process once again.
Doesn't upgrading the software flash the memory of the device with the upgraded build? Eg. If you installed the Lumia Black update and reset the phone, you'd still have the black and GDR3.
Isn't that applicable for 8.1?
Wait till WP8.1 and then buy a WP8 device. As soon as WP8.1 is launched, prices for current devices will drop. These devices are upgradable to WP8.1 anyway. So buying a Lumia 920, 925 or 1020 - would be more affordable with latest software in May.
Yeah, for what a 520 cost (I paid $39.00 for one) this seems like a pretty good plan. You have something decent to use and you can upgrade without ditching an expensive phone. I bought my 520 just to use a media player. If I need to, I can put a sim in it and I have a backup phone. Definitely worth $39.00.My android phone which was about 18 months old, had become so unstable that it was not really usable anymore and I wanted to replace it with a high end windows phone, but I thought it was better to wait for new hardware (quad core, 1080p etc) so I bought a lumia 520 around Christmas which does me fine until the next generation is released.
So I guess both... Bought one recently and am also waiting for 8.1 hardware.
I have WP8 now and would still buy one today knowing that WP8.1 was around the corner if there was hardware out there that I wanted.
If there were no good handsets out, I would wait. Unfortunately, there are too many great handsets out to not get one now.
Picked up a 525 yesterday as I am switching from ios. I plan to go high end once 8.1 is released as there should be some good stuff out. BTW when is 8.1 out?
Thanks
