Will 8.1 allow recording calls?

We lost the ability to record phone calls with WP8. Does the presence of the new 'Switch to Skype' button, which Belfiore says was created using the new APIs, mean that we can programmatically add a 'Record' button to the Dialer? And is the incoming audio stream itself still blocked?

'Switch to Skype' button elegantly switches the phone call to skype. I don't think you can add a record button to the dialer.

In many countries it's against the law to record calls.
Afraid of the possibility of being law-suited, MS adopted to this by muting the mic for third party developers during a call.
This have not been changed to my knowledge.

Call record was available in WP7? I was not aware of it.

Maybe it was WM 6.x that last had the ability. I can't remember. But I do remember there was no need to install any app; the OS itself offered call recording and there was a 'Record' button on the In-Call soft menu.

I think MS should let third party developers make call recording apps. If MS is afraid of being sued, it can continue to not offer this feature directly in the OS but let other developers offer apps that can record calls. I want to record my own calls. Any Android phone can do this. Just doesn't make any sense for MS to block it.

i fell so sad when i want to record any call in my at&t lumia 1020
but their is no optin or app for recidng calls
