wp8.1 emailed docs won't download or open

This was an issue I had some time ago with 8.0 and is now back.

All I want to do is view an excel attachment sent to me on gmail but all it does is sit there downloading for ever. Its only a small file and I'm on WiFi.

Any ideas how to fix??

Are you using windows phone 8.1 ? Are you trying to download via mail app or via internet explorer.

if i am not mistaken simply go to the office and see there must be your (downloaded) file under the email tag.
i had the same issue with docs file of 10mb. mail shows only once to download and its like taken forever and then the option to download .docs never shown in the mail.
i go to the office and find there my file. open that file click on save-> choose any option phone/SD/onedrive save to phone. and then remove that file from email tag that was actually saved in your mails folder that is not accessible through explorer.

I'm using the Email app and its only a 277k file. Doc doesn't appear in office at all though...

Doesn't that defeat the object of having it sent to the email app though? Either way it won't work - all I get is plain text

is there any other email in which attachment is available in your mails?
check their behavior.. it might clear something. or try to restart your phone.

I can email a doc to myself and it downloads ok. Soft reset several times with no effect though...

I've noted I can't open or download files from the web either such as from my work webmail portal which I've always been able to do in the past, I just get a message that the file is corrupt.

Also try to download through third party apps like uc browser etc
Of thats not work too then i would suggest you to hard reset once.
And clean install each app i mean avoid restoring backup..
If that not work too then wait for update or contact to MS..:/

I'm using a Nokia 520. The download has worked on this same email a few days ago whilst still on 8.1. I think I may just wait for MS to update as I really don't have the time or patience for a hard reset.

Also tried UC browser but result was the same.

Still having this issue in 8.1 sporadically - has anyone else had this problem or am I the only one?
