Question about Lumia Cyan availability

I'm fairly new to WP and when I got my device it already had Lumia Black installed on it so this will be the first firmware update for me. I have a GB (Great Britain) country variant (factory unlocked) 1020 but I'm in a different country with a local sim, do I need my current sim carrier to approve the update before I can install it, or can I get it once released to all GB country variant devices?

Updates are pushed independent of the carrier being used for service. Depends on the firmware. (although it often corresponds in the case of branded and locked phones)

Your phone will receive the update as soon as it is released for GB unlocked 1020s.

My phone for example is on AT&T in the US. I changed the firmware to the local French ROM, so it now acts like an unbranded French 920.
Updates come when Nokia releases the update for that 920 model, regardless of the fact I'm using it on AT&T in the US.
