I'm sure there's a few other threads regarding rooms, but...

Has any had, and solved this issue?

I am having a problem with one person. He can't see my messages, but I can see his. I've tried a room with others with no issues. We've tried
-checking our messenger statuses
-re inviting one another
-making sure our contact info for one another is correct

Any suggestions?

FYI

We both have the same device (Samsung Ativ S Neo) with WP 8.1 Update 1.

So it turns out I am the other person that the OP was referring to. We've had this issue since vanilla WP8 was released and we can't figure out a fix.

We've tried everything we can think of but the issue persists. The only thing I've noticed is that OP is always listed as offline in Messenger/Skype despite him having put himself as online. It's weird that he can see my posts but I can't see his. We've also tested this by having a third person (my gf, she has a Lumia 920) join our room and she was able to see both of us and both of us saw her. However, I still couldn't see OP.

We're at our wits end so we figured we'd toss our issue out to the WPC universe and hopefully we can get a solution.

As OP mentioned we both have the ATIV S Neo, but I am on Sprint and he is on AT&T.
