Backing Up Start Screen

Doing a back up of my phone works all except the start screen, and I don't know how it would ever work. Here is the issue. You can only resort to a backup if you restore you phone to factory setting which is pre 8.1. When the phone reboots after the wipe, that is the first, last and only time you can restore your backup. Problem is, the phone isn't updated to 8.1 yet, which means the start screen can't restore third row if you use them or the folders. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way around This?

Once your phone is fully updated, do a hard reset, then restore. If your backup is good, you should get the start screen back, at least mostly. It worked for me, just had a few tiles messed up.
