1020 vs 1520: Which one is the best

Hello all,

I really want to buy one of this phone. But before that, tell me which one is the best with point below.

1. Can snap moving object without blur at the night/day [kid running around/moving train]
2. Can use a flash when recording a video
3. Can recording the video/audio more than 3 hours without stop.
4. Can play a movie or video with any format [avi/dat/rmvb/mp4/rm/3gp/wmv] if not support, pls state third app will support to play the video, example [BS Player.apk]
5. Red eye function
6. Can zoom in and out when recording a video with flash light on.
7. Video editing, if don't have, pls advice 3rd app will support to edit, example [AndroVid.apk]

I'm not photographer but the point above will decide which one I need to buy.

p/s:- Big screen, big batteries, big megapixel & external sd card, I think it just bonus for me.TQ:smile::smile::smile:

First things first.

Since we're talking about Nokias here you need to keep in mind one thing. They're pretty much the same phone with regards to software, difference here is phone size, camera and SD card support. You've indicated larger is better so go for the 1520. You don't gain anything getting the 1020 if you're not into photography.

So to answer your questions.

1. 1520 is probably quicker than the 1020 but it's really reliant on apps. You can get apps to help with quick moving objects.
2. Yes
3. No record limit. Based on the space available.
4. App is required for this but I believe WP8.1 will fix some of this
5. Yes, there's also tonnes of editing apps.
6. Nokia Camera app for this purpose
7. Not much in the way of video editing apps. Again, coming with WP8.1

So there's your answers. Aside from the video editing you can pretty much do what you want.

If you're not into photography, and you don't mind the size, get the 1520. It's basically a stretched 1020 with a more modern chipset and screen, still with an amazing 20MP camera that won't disappoint. Only reason to get the 1020 now is that fabulous 41MP camera...which if you're really into photography you'll really appreciate. Size of the device is still something to consider though--and substantial on the 1520--so make sure you're good with that before you buy.

Having had both, while I like the 1020 camera, I don't need/want the full resolution images at 41MP; 20MP is more than enough and the images shared are still 5MP and look great.

IMO both devices are fantastic so you really can't lose either way.

I still own both, but am keeping the 1520 and selling the 1020.

The 1020 is a near perfect phone, but I didn't take advantage of the camera enough. I've always just pointed and took the picture on auto settings.

The size of the 1520 works great for me. I love the extra row of tiles, the screen resolution, and extra power is always nice.

It's really odd looking at the display of the 1020 after using the 1520 2-3 weeks now.

1020 has a very good camera. The screen is small though and the battery is not that good if you use mobile data a lot. 1520 is amazing. Screen, battery, fluidity is consistent. The camera is "ok," not as good as 1020's but it can manage.

I've had the 1020, now I'm using 1520. No regrets on changing my phone.

I've got a 1520 and my Wife has a 1020. Both were the right choices for each of us.

My wife is a Camera and Social Networking Nut. She also does a lot of calls from her phone. She is also 5''1" tall. For her the ability to do high-quality, no-thought, point and shoot as well as have something she can comfortably hold in her hand all day long are top priorities and the 1020 is by far the best phone she has had for that. Probably the only downside for her has been battery life could be better but to be fair she has yet to own a phone that she doesn't drain quickly.

For me, I'm a power user in every sense of the word. My phone is my mobile PC. It acts as my GPS when I'm traveling, it is my Entertainment system when I'm in the car or at the airport, it is my email/calendar/scheduling system as I'm conducting business throughout the day. Speed, ease-of-use, and above-average storage are primary needs for me. Good photos and video have become more of a need as time as gone by but my photography needs are different in the sense that for business purposes I'm looking for quick/quality shots and if I want to do more I break out a prosumer camera (these days a Sony RX100) at 6'1" the size of the phone is less of a challenge than it would be for my wife. Because of all that the 1520 is probably my favorite phone so far. But we each have slightly different priorities.

Each phone is terrific, but each one has a slightly different set of priorities. While it's hard to go wrong with either choice those priorities will likely tell you which is the best purchase.

I own the 1520 and just purchased to try out the 1020 because the 1520 is really big, imo too big for me.
But I gotta admit that I am a little disappointed from the 1020. Here in germany the 1020 is maybe less than 100€ cheaper but old HW (which I knew before) and the display looks just out-dated ... AMOLED and the resolution does in NO WAY equal Nokias 1520 display. The sharpness and LCD screen just makes it amazing (although colors aren't as bright and colorful).

And, somehow, the 1020 is way more slippery than the much bigger 1520 because of the camera which adds a lot of bulk and the thickness of the device in general. The 1520 is way better to hold.
I would pay the same price which I would get for my used 1520 on ebay. I don't know if that's the way to go (esp as I own an iPhone 5S too for more comfortable situations ^^).

Now all I want is the yellow 1520 (own the white one because I got it way cheaper back then), I just love Nokias yellow matte finish!

The xenon flash on the 1020 is way better for avoiding blur on moving photo subjects. The LEDs on the 1520 are no match. I had a 1020 for a week, but returned it because of the lack of wireless charging. If the 1520 had the camera features of the 1020, I'd be thrilled. But it doesn't. That said, it processes image capture faster because the chipset is newer and there's less image data than the 41 Mpixel 1020.

Nokia has apps for both video trimming, editing and upload to YouTube..

I agree the image from 1020 much better than1520, and I hope you can give me the link related to moving photo/image [1020 vs 1520]. I need to compare first.tq

Thank you for your comment. I afraid at number three.. In the past, I had Nokia phone symbian ver, but the phone will stop after reach size limit at 4GB [1.30 minute]. The seller also tell me the same answers as you did. But honestly, can you tell me a bit details for both devices. Can 1020 and 1520 record the video more than 30 - 1 hour at Full HD?if yes, just say it. I think many smartphone today cant take longer than 30 minutes at full hd. It just a gimmick. FYI, I using this phone to record conversation/meeting/presentation. tq:smile::smile:

That i agree with the xenon is better at freezing a fast moving object than the leds. But apart from that i havent experience a blurry pic with the 1520 yet, other phones like the S4/iPhone 5/s etc had more issues with freezing the picture.

And the 1020 has xenon for pics and led for Focus + Videos.
