when i have the keyboard attached and start up from hibernation it takes over that long to start up.
until then it just sits at 'Surface' screen. if i detach the keyboard it will immediately move past the start screen or if i remove the keyboard and power up, it starts right up start up.

i love the machine but it goes back in a week if its not fixed along with the sleep battery drain heat issue.

sadly i can't link my video as i havent been here long enough i guess... but

Feel your pain.... i really do. for me its only if its in a passive position.... folded back.

No it doesn't at all its the best setting for devices like the Surface. Hibernation is good in theory BUT in practice its sort of stinks. Think of it dump all contents of RAM on SSD then shutdown...Then reboot and then reload what was in Ram stored on SSD. Not good.

Sleep just sets Surface into an ultra low power state.

I am 100% convinced that the m3 is the sweet spot for Surface Pro 4.... my battery life is now outstanding after a few power config changes for when on battery. The m3 was specifically designed for the Surface Pro 4. Its the perfect processor for a device like this and more then you need to go Surface Book , do not but the i5 or i7 of the SP4...only the m3 makes sense on this device...more then go SB

If the keyboard is folded back, it will hang on startup. Apparently it is a known problem and also was a problem on the Surface Pro 3. If you keep the keyboard in the normal position, it will not hang and as soon as it starts to boot up, you can fold it back. Annoying bug, but manageable until a fix is implemented.

The sleep problem is caused by Window Hello. If you turn off that feature your SP4 should sleep without running the CPU full blast.

I'm considering going with the m3 now. Its the most logical step up from my S3.
I just wanted more breathing room to run AmidOS when needed.

Incorrect . I'm telling you with the m3 and a few tweaks there are ZERO issues with sleep, hibernation or Hello.

I have been up for over an hour and a half... working hard and my battery is at 69% with 4 hr 16 minutes remaining. My system sleeps hibernates and instantly logs in with Hello.

The secret is get the m3 , change the power settings and enjoy.

Yea, I'm just gonna do this. Thanks. I need a tablet 1st.

I've had this issue about once a day, and also had it with my Lenovo Thinkpad with Windows 8.1. It happens regardless of cold start, restart, hibernation, or sleep mode. Whenever it happens, invariably there is an update waiting to be installed. If you don't want to wait for it, you can hold down the power button until the "Surface" disappears, then press the power button again briefly once or twice until it starts again. That gives you a cold boot which is pretty fast. For me this always fixes it. You'll still get the update eventually or you can request it in Settings.
