I have already seen that...if global support page says that update is available, nokia india support page should also show this as it is showing for 920 and 820.

TBH. Nokia website says It is available in India.
Some people got the update. I dont know why some phones are still not getting it.
I have been trying since 4pm yesterday.

If the amber update depends upon carrier, will i get the update if i take out the sim card and check for updates? Will it still be able to recognise my carrier? (Running Lumia 620 on airtel,unlocked.....Delhi)

No, the update is not dependent on carrier in India.
