640XL no unlockcode

I recently heard you can't sim unlock an at&t Microsoft Lumia 640XL. I even paid for an unlock code, and they said my phone needed a premium database. Now, I've got good tech skills. I've even worked on an assembly line for a HP, so I know it's crap. How can I........... oh I see. AT&T has unlock it. Can anybody validate this for me? I would appreciate someone experienced and qualified to respond. I wish to develop apps with the phone, but it still needs to be able to make a phone call.

Are you saying you have the code and can't figure out how to unlock the phone or that you are not able to get an unlock code?

If it is an AT&T branded phone, they will provide the unlock code for free as long as it is not currently under contract (and the associated account is not past-due).

Once you have the code, you can get to the unlock screen by going to your phone dialer and entering ##7820#. I've unlocked several AT&T Lumia 920's, an 820, and an 830 this way without having a third-party SIM card available

My Lumia 640 XL is an unlocked international version, so I can't verify any issues you might be having with this particular phone after you get the unlock code.

The guy I bought it from only had it two weeks and defaulted on his bill. That was the problem. I calculated an unlock code, and voila. Thanks.
