8.1 Bluetooth question

Cortana has never been that accurate for me over Bluetooth, spot on over the phone mics.
Looking under advanced salertings for Bluetooth and the only option available is use alternate audio connection for speech, I turned this on and Cortana seems to be understanding me much better.

My question is what does thus setting actually do, and what is the downside to having it checked?

From what I understand it controls which mic/integration Cortana (actually your phone in general) listens to.

Without it checked on, your phone will try and process commands through the BT stack paired with the device. With it checked on, it will go directly to your phone's builtin mics to listen for your input.

​As for a downside, if it works for you, there's not a downside. ;-)
